An essential aspect of music composition (and, for that matter, of all creative work) is the capacity to rest in the unknown and the unresolved, using it as raw material for creation. When dealing with an ensemble of Western and Chinese instruments, two immediate questions arise, how to reconcile the differences between the two traditions, or is reconciliation indeed possible or not? In this lecture-demonstration, Professor Chan will share his thoughts on these issues by drawing musical examples from his own compositions.
