Following his sold-out debut performances last year, Hayato Sumino returns to HKU MUSE! In January, he will present two concerts at the Grand Hall, blending classical technique with an arranger’s ear and improvisational skills. Programme highlights include works by J.S. Bach, Ravel, and Scriabin, his unique take on Mozart and Gershwin (with melodica), and more of his original compositions.
Garnering international attention as a semi-finalist in the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition, Sumino has since performed with leading orchestras worldwide, including the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Marin Alsop, and is set to debut at the Berlin Philharmonie. Renowned for his versatility across classical repertoire, pop transcriptions, and jazz improvisation, Sumino has also captivated a global audience through his YouTube channel ‘Cateen’, which boasts over 1.4 million subscribers and nearly 200 million views. His debut album, under a newly signed exclusive contract with Sony Classical, is scheduled for release in Autumn 2024.
