Founded in Warsaw in 1995, 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the Szymanowski Quartet, one of the world’s leading quartets distinguished for its perfect balance between intellect and passion, and its commitment to contemporary music. In their celebratory world tour, HKU composer Daniel Lo is commissioned to write a new work, reflecting on the Quartet’s journey and creating an artistic dialogue across time and space.
In the same spirit to reflect, a tribute will be paid to Polish composer Grażyna Bacewicz, considered by Witold Lutosławski to be “one of the foremost women composers of all time”. Hong Kong’s own piano virtuoso Mary Wu will join the quartet in Bacewicz’s rarely heard Piano Quintet No. 1, and three more premieres by HKU composers Chan Sze-rok, Shao Litang, and Joyce Tang, will offer the audience “a fabric of sounds” inspired by Bacewicz.
Don’t miss the chance to be challenged and inspired in this richly programmed evening!
